The day was gloomy, dark clouds and a light rain began. The breeze wafted into your open window, the scent of rain filled your bedroom. You sat at your desk as you applied light make-up and fixed your (Hair Color) hair in a neat bun. You finished putting on light eyeliner, and then a sudden bump came from the wall. This was completely annoying. Your neighbors were at it again, being noisy. You honestly should have expected it, there were four men living next door in your apartment complex. Ever since they move-in, all you have been hearing were bumps, squeaks, and other odd sounds.
You leaned forwards and bang on the wall, “Keep it down please!”
Your lights began to flicker as you sat back in your chair. Great! Now the stupid storm is going to start messing with your electrically. You started to apply a bit more eyeliner onto your left eye, until the power went out.
“Oh come on!” You yelled at your lights.
Suddenly your phone began to ring. You stood up and walked towards your nightstand and check your caller ID. It was your boss.
“Hello?” You answered.
“Hi, Miss (Last Name)” greeted your boss
“How can I help you, Mr. Teller?”
“I just called to let you know that work was cancel--” There was another odd sound coming from the wall, almost like a muffled scream. You weren't really sure. Huh, you must be hearing things.
“Hello? (Name)? Are you there?”
“Oh! Yes, Mr. Teller, I’m here. I’m sorry. I was…uh, detracted” He chuckled.
“That’s alright, Miss (Last Name). I was just saying there is no work today, because there is no power.”
“Oh…right right right…since we only use the computer system.” He chuckled again.
“That’s right. See you tomorrow, Miss (Last Name).” He hangs up as you sat your phone down.
“Damn” you said to yourself, “I got dressed up for nothing”
Later, you had changed into your knee length sweats and an over-sized shirt. You had already started to play “A Game of Life” by yourself. You already knew that the game supposed to be played by multiple players, but your best friend had made up a terrible excuse to not come over. She had said the power is out and that meant her car didn't work. You honestly wouldn't felt as hurt if she just actually admitted that she just didn't feel like coming over. Sometimes she could be a real jerk. That didn't mean that your other best friend was a saint. You had texted him and then called him; every time you called him hang up on you. You just deiced to ignore both them. Eh, forget them. You started to move your white car onto another space, but muffled yelled stopped you. What the Hell is going on over there? You stood up and walked over to the wall and pressed your ear against it.
“Damnnit Oliver! You shouldn't have done that!” That sounded like Jason.
“Why, Dear Cousin. Please call me Ollie” You knew that one was Oliver.
“Why didn't you listen to me?! This job is going to take longer!”
“Hey, keep your voice, Hoser” That sounded like Michael, Jason‘s brother.
“The chick next door probably could hear you.”
“He’s right, you know.”
“Yeah I guess so. Don’t need Doll face in our business anyways”
You stepped away from the wall. You felt it was enough eavesdropping for today. You honestly didn't want to know what they were up too, than again…you were rather curious. Now, now Alice…no need to follow the white rabbit, but what is this eagerness of wanting to know, to have to know. Hmm. Maybe some other time, after all you still had a game to finish.
You were almost at the end of the third game, when a sudden thirst came to you. You really wanted to have hot tea, you throat did ache a small bit. However, there was only one problem. It wasn't that you couldn't boil water, you had a fireplace. It was the fact that you didn't have…sugar. Oh the irony! Sigh. At least, Oliver is home. You know for a fact that he had sugar, he’s a pastry chef after all.
You started to search in your kitchen for a small cup to use for the sugar. Once finding one, you took it with you and start for the front door. You slipped on your sandals and opened the door. You softly closed it behind you as you shortly walked next door.
As you came closer to the door, you noticed it was slightly open. Something bad must have happen; you really should have seen this coming. It was rather suspicious of how quite it was over there for the past few hours. You pecked your head in and looked down the hallway.
“Hey” You whispered out. “Jason?” You didn't hear anything. You gently pushed the door open. It slowly creaked. “Oliver? Michael? Louise?” Nothing. You stepped in and looked around. It was a mess. There must have been a struggle of some sort. Upon the floor were small puddles of red liquid. You dropped the small cup into the carpet. You really hope that is not what it is. It can’t be. It shouldn't be, right? You felt your heart started to beat faster as the fear slowly started to rise within you. You breath had hitched and your lips were numb.
You had somewhat collected yourself and continued on into the apartment. You found the kitchen to be such an ugly mess as well. There were broken cups and more red liquid. You still refused to call it blood. You heard a thump behind you; you quickly turned to find nothing there. Strange. There it was again! You followed the sound into what you expect to be the living room. There sat a man bonded to a chair with a cloth stuffed in his mouth. You have never seen this man before. Why was he like that? You watched as lend back enough for the front legs to be off the ground. He then leans forward and made a thump sound.
“Sir?” You quietly called out.
The man’s head snapped at your direction. You saw the fear in his green eyes and watched as they drafted to the right. Your head followed and soon you found unconscious woman on the floor. She looked pretty beat up. There were cuts and bruises all over her, you turned to the redhead man and saw he was the same. You rushed over to him as he started to muffle out words. You pulled off the cloth, he inhaled deeply.
“How did you know people were in here? Have you called the police?” he whispered to you.
“I didn't! And I haven’t. I just come over to borrow some sugar!” You answered back as you tired to untie the rope.
“They kidnap and torture people and you want to borrow sugar from them!” You got one knot out.
“Oh yeah! Let me just get out my crystal ball that tells me every little thing about my neighbors!”
“Watcha doin‘, Doll face?” You stopped in your tracks. Oh fu--
“Jason, is the little poppet here?”
You looked up to see Jason and Oliver covered in blood without cuts. You slowly stood up and felt your body shake. A cold sweat ran down you as you locked eyes with Jason and Oliver.
“It’s too bad, you know” Jason started to say, but your eyes suddenly moved towards Oliver as he rose his left hand to show you; it was drenched in blood. You watched as Oliver moved his hand closer to his mouth and opened; his pink tongue stuck out as he licked the blood off. Oliver’s eyes began to swirl with pink and light blue and stared you; his eyes showed that he was like an excited hunter stalking his prey. You heard Jason chuckled darkly as you pressed you lips tightly together. They began to tremble as you felt tears peaked out of your eyelids. You didn't want to cry and show the men in front of you how completely terrified you were, but didn't stop the hot tear running down your face.
“As I was saying, we’re gonna have to do something about ya. You've seen too much” You saw Jason grasping his nailed bat tighter as he smirked.
“Run! You idiot! Run!” shouted the bonded man. Not a moment later you bolted out of the apartment. “Well go get her!” You heard Michael shouted.
You run down the stairwell and managed to pass by Louise without him grabbing you, well honestly he wasn't trying; he was just leaning against the wall smoking a cigarette. “Why didn't you grab her?!” You heard Jason yell.
“She is not my problem” Louise answered honestly and bluntly.
You ran around the street towards the park without getting hit by a car. You were planning on cutting through the park to get to the police station. You turned your head slightly back and saw Oliver right behind you with a chef’s knife and Jason a little farther behind him. Big mistake, (Name). You tripped over an out grown tree root and fell on your face. You quickly turned on your back to get up, but a new weight fell on you. You saw Oliver on top of you trying to stab you. With all the strength you had, you tried to push him off. A sudden painfully ache burned onto your right shoulder, he stab you. The new found adrenaline helped you to push Oliver off. You quickly stood up and started to run again.
You finally came to the door of the police station. You tried to open them, but they wouldn't move. What the Hell? You heard footstep come to a stop. You turned and pressed you back against the door.
“No way to go now, Doll face” Jason said as he moved closer. He started to pull his bat over his head. He was going to take a mighty swing at your head. The bat started to come down and--
Your alarm clock started to beep. You shot up from your bed and panted. Such an awful dream. You began to calm down. Never again will you go to bed with a full stomach. You got out of bed and felt a burning in right shoulder. You must have pulled a muscle or slept on it wrong, it happens more than you think. You left to your kitchen to have some breakfast and a real one you might say since it was Saturday. In the kitchen, you discover you had no sugar. Weird, guess you’re going to have to go to the store since you can’t have hot tea and pancakes without sugar.
You already put on your jeans and a jacket and walked out your door. You started to lock it when you saw Louise passed by and Oliver behind. It felt a little strange to see Oliver since not too long ago you dreamed that he and his cousin tried to kill you.
Oliver stepped beside of you, “Hello Poppet!”
“Hey Ollie” You locked the door.
“How’s your shoulder feeling? Is it getting better?”
“Wh--Ho--how did you--?” You were completely shocked, speechless, and now scared.
“Oh…I see” Oliver grinned the most horrifying smile you have ever seen and his eyes swirled.
He chuckled darkly and went to catch up with Louise. You started to tremble as you lowered your shirt a little to check your shoulder.
There you found a huge gash in the shape of a blade.
